Steve - Managing Director
Born and bred in Gravesend, Kent. I’m the youngest of six and educated via Shears Green Junior School, Northfleet School for Boys and North West Kent College of Technology. It was during my secondary school years that I spent about a year with the Gravesend detachment of the Army Cadet Force. Since leaving school I’ve held numerous positions in many companies. One of the first was to follow my brother into a security company called Kentshield, until I then moved onto Reliance Security, where I rose to the position of shift supervisor at the St. George’s Centre, Gravesend.
Following my first spell in security I then went into warehousing, moved to Medway, got married for the second time and we then moved to Somerset. Whilst in Somerset I became a member of Avon & Somerset Police, before returning to Gravesend alone and joining Kent Police. It was during my time with Kent Police that I became a volunteer with an agency, which after a few name changes due to increase in size/coverage, are now called the North West Kent Crime Prevention Panel. After being their treasurer for around 12 years I’m now the secretary of the Panel, the longest serving member with 25 years voluntary service.
After I left Kent Police I was sitting at home bored one Saturday morning, my niece called me to see what I was doing, she was working down at my local football club, they were short on staff and because of my background she wondered if I wanted to help. With nothing else to do I turned up for my first shift as a football steward, at the same game I was asked to help bolster the security team. The same evening I was asked to help out on a ‘door’ in Dartford, and so my second journey in the security world began.
Around the same time I also had a full time job with London Underground, this lasted 18 years, 16 of which was as a Train Driver. In 2019 I decided it was time to leave and now work full time as the Managing Director of Paladin Secure and the rest, as they say, is history......
Ben - Head Of Business Development
Early in 2011, I was unemployed but looking for an active / physical job or occupation, as opposed to be being stuck behind a desk all day, and one that did not necessarily have a set daily routine.
Someone suggested that I should apply for my Security Industry Authority (SIA) Door Supervisors License. I duly attended one of their 5-day courses in SE London, near where I lived, and I have to say that it was one of the most interesting and enjoyable courses that I have ever attended.
I joined Paladin Secure Ltd almost immediately after qualifying for my license and was pretty much thrown in at the deep end, working the doors of a nightclub in Gravesend which turned out to be quite an eye opener as to what this role can involve. Besides working as a door supervisor, I began to take on other duties within the company, most especially at large festivals and events. I have been involved at both Glastonbury and the Leeds music festivals amongst many, and, being a massive music fan and concert goer in my spare time, this has allowed me to mix business with pleasure (with business taking precedence of course!)
During this time, I was promoted to the role of Senior Supervisor. I didn't know it at the time but I was the first ever operative to be promoted to this role through the ranks which is something that I remain immensely proud of to this day.
Providing security at various institutions has enabled me to gradually build up a network of contacts, and this has allowed me the opportunity to bring in several new contracts of work to the company.
In 2018, I was promoted to my current position of Head of Business Development, which, amongst other things involves tendering for new work and being the first point of contact between Paladin Secure Ltd and any prospective new clients.
Like my fellow members of the management team, I am very ambitious for Paladin Secure Ltd to build upon the success and reputation that we have achieved to date and for our us to become the 'go to' company many businesses will choose for their security needs.
I must admit that I love being involved in the security industry and have made some great friends along the way, especially here at Paladin Secure Ltd, and hopefully, I will remain involved until the day I retire.
Going on that SIA course was the best thing I ever did!
